It was late November 2010 and early winter in PuXi, Shanghai. It had been a long day of walking in some remote part of PuDong seeking water dragon for one of the largest automobile makers in China and then some residential selections.   I thought I could return to my apartment, have a hot shower and then head to the airport to catch the night flight home.  After 5 days of similar daily drill…. believe me, it was one of those rare times I needed to go home as soon as I could.

But no, I received an urgent request for residential Feng Shui from Tian.  A client who believes Feng Shui was what Tian needed had referred him.  Tian said he was at his wits end and could not wait till my next trip.  I relented.  He sounded very much in distress. When my assistant and I arrived at his apartment, I realised he was not exaggerating.

Tian was married in 2010 and the couple moved into this apartment in PuDong, Shanghai in July 2010.  Their first-born arrived in October 2010.  Both Tian and his wife are Gen艮 gua and their baby girl Dui兌 gua.  Tian is in trading of a niche and perishable good. He was doing reasonable for a new comer until they moved into this apartment.  Within 3 months, his business has come to a complete halt with no sales.  He was also experiencing stress from credibility issues instigated by petty competition.  Tian’s wife was near postnatal depression, as their newborn would cry every waking moments if she was not cuddled or fed.  The whole apartment was in a mess.

The macro Qi map of Tian’s condominium estate is one of the worst in PuDong.   This is a Google image of the site.  Former rivers have been merged into canals and the flow and convergence are complicated and messed up.

It is a case where San He Feng Shui has a greater chance of misses than San Yuan.  San He’s landform is dependent on physical forms.  I.e. clear Qi flow defined by clear physical landform. This estate is a San He Water Dragon nightmare.  3 canals on North, East and South sides surround it.  The flow can go both East/West and North/South. There is no clear Water Mouth.  Not to mentioned incoming and out-going Water. 來去水完全混亂.

But if we were to apply San Yuan Feng Shui, we would also be limited by the lack of Qi stability.  Every measurement runs in this apartment.  Here is why – Sha Qi from all openings.

A pylon each within eye level and short distance to both back rooms.  A ‘cut’ from opposite block at the balcony door.  A lift and stairways splitting the energies of the Main Door and the Heavenly Heart.

What’s our alternative? Plain reliable Xuan Kong.  No, not ‘Flying’ star please.  Xuan Kong’s primary function is to put the occupants into the appropriate Qi containers – GUA 裝卦.   But first the property must meet certain basic criteria.  One needs to identify and understand the usage of:

  • Static Natal Chart
  • Dynamic Chart
  • Annual Chart
  • Heavenly heart or Centre Palace
  • Seal Palace 官位 (Static and Dynamic)
  • Wealth Palace 財位 (Static and Dynamic)
  • Door & House Stars 門神、宅神

Xuan Kong is certainly not about ‘activating’ the annual 8, 5, 6, 9 or 1 on this and that special date.  These are the commercial ‘feel-good-and-hopeful-then-wait’ marketing gimmicks in vogue today.   Skeptical?  Go to any bookstores in Asia near Lunar New Year.  How many ‘Feng Shui’ books in both Chinese and English medium do you see dishing ‘activations’? The test is: what percentage of those who activated experience tangible results?

In most cases, true Xuan Kong practitioners who manage and master the concept of Heaven, Man and Earth trilogy do not need to select date to place the occupants into the appropriate Gua.  The concept is simple and logical.  The reason why a person needs to change Gua usage is because he/she is NOT in the appropriate Gua or Qi container.  Therefore, an immediate shift is better than waiting out for a good date.

Recommendation:

1.  The family was sleeping in the master bedroom.  I switched them into the NE room as soon as Tian could find help to move their queen-size bed. (Note: No date selection.)

2.  Drop the ceiling of the entrance.

Results?

Immediate:  The baby stopped her endless cries and Tian’s wife finally had some sleep.

Within 3 weeks: Tian sold all his stocks and resolve the credibility issue.  The sale of all stocks improves his profitability year-to-year 2009/2010 by 200%.

January 2011: Tian had 2 separate investor sources that would commit funds to expand his business.

March 2011: Tian is renovating his new shop-cum-office.   A third investor made serious offers to increase fund for his expansion.

What about the Sha?  Yes, they are limiting the capacity of this apartment.  However, Tian may maixmise his ‘new’ Gua till end 2012. By then, I reckon he will make enough to move to a better place.  He will start another business venture in 2012.

Note:  This is a good case study on treatment of pylon and structural ‘cut’.  No ornaments, Bagua mirrors, water features or tilting of doors required. Experienced practitioners would see that an application ‘risk’ has been taken by moving the family into the NE room.  Discussions of case studies are opened to our Feng Shui students and Research members.
