I used to take frequent trips to Central Taiwan to visit my BaZi teachers. During such trips, I would meet with the small community of Chinese Metaphysics practitioners and senior researchers who gather monthly to exchange cases and findings 煮茶論命.
During one of those meetings I met a senior, Zhong, who is also a Chinese physician in a local hospital. He is a San Yuan expert. Thanks to his kind introduction to some academic sources, I came to appreciate the importance of cross referencing Chinese Metaphysics and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, there is a meridian spot near our navel named: 天樞 Tian Shu. It is this little spot which connects Heaven Qi and Earth Qi in a Human body.
In one of Qing Dynasty’s renown Chinese Physician, Shi Shou Tang 石寿棠 work.: “Source of Medicinal Principles: The Human Body – A Universe on Its Own”《醫原●人身一小天地論》, it suggests that 天樞穴 Tian Shu Meridian spot divides the Heaven Qi and Earth Qi.
This is why San He’s measurement is normally not higher than 6 inches from navel (and from seating perspective) and is always around the waist level or lower.
Whereas, San Yuan’s measurement is not lower than 6 inches from navel (from facing perspective) and normally at gastric (or just where solar plexus ends).
Isn’t this interesting how TCM provides information for Feng Shui people on simple fundamental stuff like proper manner of using the LuoPan 羅槃? Please remember to ask in classes where and WHAT are you measuring.
